10 Quilting Hacks I Wish I Knew Sooner!

Where have these tips been my whole life?!

Quilting is such a fun and creative hobby. There’s just something about working with your hands to make all sorts of projects that is so rewarding! Another thing we love about quilting is that there are always new things to learn, or new tricks to help the process go smoother with each quilt. We rounded up our top 10 quilting hacks and have them here for you!

Press Don’t Iron

When you’re just starting out quilting, you may watch a few tutorials and notice that the quilters use an iron on almost every seam before stitching together. At first glance, you may think they are ironing, but really they are pressing the seams. This is exactly what it sounds like – pressing the iron down on one spot, and lifting it up to move to another spot. Pressing helps settle the stitches and straighten out any puckered edges. With pressing, you avoid the constant pressure of ironing that can pull on seams and fabric.

How To Rip Seams Faster

If you’re in the unfortunate position of having to rip out seams, there are a few tricks to getting it done faster. First, you don’t need to rip out every stitch individually. You can cut ever 4th or 5th stitch and still be able to take out the thread. Second, if you have rip apart a whole quilt sandwich, you should lift up the quilt top and batting and cut the seams in between the batting and quilt backing. There is a great tutorial on this right here!
